Superior Nitrate Removal Starts with LINX®

Posted by Rayne Water

drinking water for granted. We are grateful to have access to water sources these days, but we often forget that our drinking water can contain impurities like nitrates which can pose health risks when the quantities are great enough. Just because you want to ensure the quality and purity of your drinking water for your family does not mean that you’re taking it for granted. It is important to educate yourself and advocate for safe, healthy drinking water. That is why we are so proud to be able to offer a selection of drinking water systems that lead the way when it comes to nitrate removal.
Nitrates in drinking water are dangerous when the levels exceed the standards set forth by the government and the state. Here in California, human activities such as fertilizer use and manure applications, have increased nitrate concentrations in drinking water to levels above EPA’s drinking water standard. Nitrates cause so much concern because it is considered an acute contaminant, meaning that just one exposure can affect a person’s health. Too much nitrate in your body makes it harder for red blood cells to carry oxygen. While most people recover quickly, this can be very dangerous for infants and some adults. Infants exposed to high amounts of nitrate may develop “blue baby syndrome.” All of these are important factors to consider when choosing your means of nitrate removal. Municipal drinking water treatment facilities test for nitrates, but wells are left on their own and you’ll need to test your own water for nitrate contamination frequently.
The maximum contaminant level, or EPA’s drinking water standard, for nitrate is 10 milligrams per liter mg/L, which is the same thing as 10 parts per million ppm. If a nitrate test shows levels higher than 10 ppm, you should find a safe alternative drinking water supply. The best thing to do is to install a water filtration system that will effectively remove nitrate from your water. Many people rely on reverse osmosis (RO)  to remove these contaminants from their drinking water but in areas where the levels are quite high, even traditional reverse osmosis can leave levels above what has been labeled as safe.
Our drinking water systems have an edge above the others on the market because of our LINX® technology and how much nitrate contamination they can handle. The LINX 140 is the first water filtration system certified to reduce nitrate and nitrite contamination to NON-DETECT levels in certification testing. These reduction levels are far superior to traditional reverse osmosis filtration systems and, in addition, the LINX technology also uses significantly less water – up to 90% less than a reverse osmosis system. Being concerned about your drinking water doesn’t mean you take it for granted. In fact, it means you care about your drinking water and want to make sure it is the best you can make it for your family to keep them healthy and safe, always.

How often should I test my Well Water?

Posted by Rayne Water

The quality of ground water can quickly and easily change over time; even though it may smell, taste and look the same, it is highly susceptible to contamination. It is important to regularly check for changes, or contaminants in order to maintain healthy, safe drinking water. Due to its tendency for contamination, it is recommended that private wells be tested at least once a year.
Regular water testing can help you track changes over time, identify any current water problems, and make sure your drinking water is safe for consumption. Because we understand how important it is to have your drinking water tested at regular intervals, here at Rayne of Ventura, we offer free water tests. We want to make sure that you and your family are protected against water contamination, which can often go unnoticed.
The only way to know for certain if your drinking water is clean, is to have it tested by a professional. As we mentioned before, many contaminates are completely undetectable by taste, smell or appearance. A reputable water company will check for bacteria, nitrates, ions and several other dangerous substances that could unknowingly be lurking in your water supply.
Some common contaminates to test for on a regular basis are:

When it comes time to add a water filtration system in your home or office, you will want to look for a water company with an outstanding level of customer service, and performance. Here at Rayne of Ventura, we can help you choose the perfect water treatment system to match your unique water needs. We always test your water first, to determine what type of filtration or water treatment is needed, and will then recommend the correct product to alleviate any water concerns or contamination issues you may be faced with.
Remember, private wells need to be tested at a minimum of once a year, however shallow wells and surface water need to be tested more often because they can become contaminated easier. Keep in mind that many water contaminants can cause health problems that may take years to develop. You don’t want to wait too long to have your water tested, or install a water filtration system, because you could be putting you and your family in unnecessary danger.

PFAS Water Contamination is Worse in California

Posted by Rayne Water

A new study published in the journal, Environmental Sciences and Technology Letters, discovered that 16.5 million Americans are drinking water that is contaminated with at least one of six types of PFAS’s, with levels at, or above, the maximum limit set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). While PFAS’s can be found in drinking water anywhere in the United States, the majority of the toxic water is found in just 13 states and California tops that list. PFAS’s are polyfluoroalkyl and perfluoroalkyl substances used to make such things as food packaging items like popcorn bags and pizza boxes, nonstick cookware, fire suppressing foam and certain fabrics. The biggest problem with PFAS’s is that once they are introduced into the body, they will remain there for a long, long time – about 3 ½ years to be exact. This means that each time they are ingested, they will accumulate, which can cause some serious health problems. These chemicals are stored in the liver, blood serum and other organs, and have been linked to high cholesterol, hormone suppression, obesity and cancer. Another study in the Environmental Health Perspectives found that PFAS’s may even be disrupting the immune system of children; those exposed to PFAS’s, from drinking water, at a young age, had lower levels of tetanus and diphtheria antibodies than expected, after being immunized to them. Some other health care professionals have seen this same effect for influenza and measles as well. While there have already been restrictions placed on PFAS’s predecessor, perfluorooctanoic acid, there are still not enough restrictions in place for PFAS’s. With this being said, it is important to have your drinking water tested for these chemicals, especially if you live in a location known to have higher concentrations of PFAS’s, such as California. Rural areas are not the only places that need water filtration, water softeners in the San Fernando Valley and other major Southern California metropolitan areas are becoming increasingly popular due to hard water problems.

Other locations that are plagued with high levels of these toxic chemicals are those with watersheds located near military bases, wastewater treatment plants and industrial sites. The Water Research Foundation conducted a series of tests to determine what water filtration methods were the most effective at removing PFAS’s. Their determination was that nanofiltration and Reverse Osmosis (RO) were the most effective in removing even the smallest of these toxic chemicals. An effective RO system such as our RayneClear Reverse Osmosis System or RaynePure Plus Reverse Osmosis System has the ability to filter out some of the most toxic chemicals out there, including PFAS’s.

Rayne Water is happy to serve both Northern and Southern California. From water softening systems in Sacramento to reverse osmosis in San Diego, we have you covered! If you would like more information on any of our available drinking water filtration systems, and what types of contaminates they will filter out, give us a call at 1-800-327-9777 and we will be glad to go over all of your water filtration options with you.

A Healthy Body Starts with Drinking Water

Posted by Rayne Water

Most people know how important drinking water is, in order to live a healthy life. We know our body needs water to survive, but have you ever thought about what might happen to you if you didn’t drink water? How much do you need to live healthier? What will happen if you suffer with even a little bit of dehydration? No, we don’t want you to experiment. Find out what happens when you don’t drink enough water by continuing to read this blog.
Water does more than just quench our thirst. Not getting enough water can compromise our health because so many bodily functions rely on it. While we can withstand weeks without food, we can only survive five to seven days without water. After that, we would begin to feel the effects of dehydration and they can get to be quite severe. Water carries nutrients and hormones to the body, regulates body temperature, cushions the joints, and provides lubricants in our eyes – and those are just a few of the important jobs!
After sweating and urinating, we need to be sure to drink plenty of water to replace what we lost, before our body shuts down. Completely depleting your body of water, even with fluids that contain water such as juice, coke, or tea, causes the brain to detect this change and creates the urge to drink something immediately.  Within three to five days, say experts, our organs and brain shut down.
More than half of American children are dehydrated according to one medical study, which can have serious effects on their health and academic performance. About 25% of children in the country are said to not drink water on a daily basis. They likely drink something, but choosing water over sweetened, bottled beverages, can significantly improve your health.  According to Dr. Mercola’s website, these choices may not be an immediate, dramatic health threat, this is an issue that could really be reducing quality of life and well-being for many, many children and youth.
Without quality drinking water, your body may not be able to properly complete the physiological processes and biochemical reactions such as blood circulation, metabolism, regulation of body temperature, waste removal and detoxification.  Once your body has lost one to two percent of its total water content, it will signal its needs by making you feel thirsty. You may also begin to suffer from fatigue, dizziness, mood swings, foggy thinking, poor concentration, chills, muscle cramps, joint pain, wrinkles, constipation and much more. Severe dehydration can even be life-threatening. None of it is pleasurable.
Our drinking water systems are the perfect addition to your home. Safe, clean drinking water doesn’t have to be expensive or impossible to find. Give us a call and learn more about our water filters. We want you to drink more water – water that you can feel great about and your family will want to drink more of.]]>
