Is what you see what you get?

Posted by Ken Christopher
Las Vegas residents are dealing with an unusual drinking water issue lately. According to an article in the Las Vegas Review Journal, residents seem to be confused about whether to toast before drinking their glasses of water, based on the champagne-like image they see. A bubbly and cloudy change is appearing and they want to know why. Officials published an explanation for residents who were naturally concerned about the safety and purity of the drinking water they were seeing from the tap – and hoping that what they see is not what they get.

The water district maintains 76 major wells scattered below the desert that we know as the Las Vegas Valley, and they’re pressed into service especially during the peak season of the summer months. The demand from these aquifer wells, which according to the water district can produce nearly 175 million gallons of water a day, becomes further accelerated during the present mother of all droughts that continues to plague Southern Nevada. This mix with the regular water source is causing quite the visible stir – but will not have any negative effects as far as residents are being told. The water is affected by what they say is “similar to the effect created when you open a bottle of soda. The thousands of tiny air bubbles that form give the water a slightly white appearance.” Water district literature further explains that “because water pipelines are pressurized, air remains trapped in the water until you open the faucet and release the pressure.” “It’s really nothing more than trapped air in the wells,” added Beth Moore, a spokeswoman for the water district. “The bubbles appear as a result of cold water that rises to a warm surface.” “While this may impact your water’s appearance, it does not affect water safety and will not harm household plumbing systems. All tap water delivered to our customers meets or surpasses state and federal Safe Drinking Water Act standards,” states the article. While this may be true, contamination could still occur without notice because not all contaminants are tested. Environmental factors also affect tap water status and should be considered before drinking. If you saw bubbly, cloudy drinking water flowing from your tap, would you drink it? Would you serve it to your loved ones? Guests or visitors? Most people are not sure that they would. With a drinking water system, harmful contamination is reduced and water tastes great and looks pure. Don’t be embarrassed by your tap water. When it comes to drinking water, what you see is what you get. Contact a trusted water treatment company for testing, information, products, or anything else pertaining to the condition and safety of your drinking water. With a drinking water filter, you will feel good about your tap water – even when appearances vary.

Drinkin’ In The Morning

Posted by Ken Christopher

We all know that drinking water is necessary for good health, but did you know that the time of day that you drink it affects how much benefit you get from the water? A recent infographic on the Life and Livingness blog shows some interesting facts that will have you reaching for a glass of water before your cup of coffee even. Here’s the gist of it all:

  1. Drinking water first thing in the morning, before breakfast particularly, helps cleanse the colon, making it easier for the body to absorb the nutrients you will later consume.
  2. Drinking water helps increase the production of new blood cells and muscle tissue. When better than before your morning exercise?
  3. Drinking water jump starts your daily weight loss. According to their statistics, 16 ounces of chilled water can boost your morning metabolism by 24%.
  4. Drinking water purges toxins from the blood, helping give you glowing skin. That’s a little less time you can spend on your morning routine!
  5. Water in the morning rebalances your lymph system, which helps with all your daily functions, balances your fluid levels, and fights infections.

We always knew a glass of great-tasting, healthy drinking water was a perfect way to start your day – glad that the medical sciences agree with us. To make sure that your water is all that it should be, use a home water filter to flush out the things that you don’t want to drink!

Water Problem – Aging Water Infrastructure

Posted by Ken Christopher
Water infrastructure is nothing like a fine wine; it does not get better with age. Among the current issues taking place in our country today, older water infrastructure is not at the top of the list – but maybe it should be. Safe drinking water is a precious commodity. It should not be taken for granted. But, with the state of the water systems compromising our drinking water and what it’ll take to fix (or even improve) it, we recommend a drinking water system such as our reverse osmosis to keep your water safe until the issue rises to the top.

According to an online article from mercurynews.com, each year, 850 billion gallons of wastewater enters the U.S. public drinking water supply because of aging or inadequate water systems. That’s equivalent to 13.6 trillion eight-ounce glasses. The EPA says U.S. water systems need $500 billion in maintenance and new capital investment by 2020.” Some of this water is contaminated and will make its way out of the tap. Programs such as the Aging Water Infrastructure research program promotes research and development for promising new technologies and techniques that increase the effectiveness and lower the cost of our wastewater collection systems. CNN published news last year stating that there are an average of 700 water main breaks nationwide each year. They warn that this is the latest sign of an aging water delivery infrastructure that results in property loss, inconvenience, and threats to public health. “Anytime you’re breaking the seal of the system that brings water into your homes and apartments, you’re risking contamination from bacteria and viruses,” said Eric Goldstein of the Natural Resources Defense Council. Our reverse osmosis systems filter drinking water by effectively reducing harmful contaminants and turning tap water into convenient, fresh, clean water at your own separate faucet. The everyday water we drink should be pure and safe. You deserve to have faith in your drinking water. But, when aging water systems compromise drinking water and your faith in the infrastructure falters, we can reinstate your faith back to your tap water. The expenses are immense to fix these municipal systems. It may not be possible for our government to improve the infrastructure as completely or as promptly as we need. So without waiting for this to happen and potentially consuming harmful toxins and contaminants, look into one of our reverse osmosis drinking water filters so that you can feel good about the water you drink.

Camp Pendleton Housing and Water Treatment Services

Even on base, the quality of your drinking water may not be optimal. In the Camp Pendleton area, we deal with both hard water and drinking water contamination. Just because you live on base doesn’t mean that you should have limited access to home drinking water systems. Our services are extended to on-base housing and we provide the same services and products to those living on base no matter what your water needs are.

If contamination is a concern, we offer our drinking water systems where reverse osmosis will effectively reduce harmful contaminants turning tap water into convenient, fresh, clean water at your own separate faucet. Many pollutants are put into the ground and into lakes, rivers and streams every day. The disposal of wastes into ground and surface waters can cause contamination of water that we use for drinking and that we expect to be of excellent quality. It takes many years and it is very costly to remove contamination affecting water supplies. While The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has primary responsibility for ensuring the activities required by the Safe Drinking Water Act, our reverse osmosis can also be a helpful line of defense for your family. According to one news agency, millions of Americans could be drinking water with dangerous chemicals and pollutants. Public water supplies in 42 U.S. states are contaminated with 141 unregulated chemicals for which the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has never established safety standards, according to an investigation by the Environmental Working Group (EWG). If your base housing water is contaminated, we can come to you to find the perfect product to turn tap water into safe drinking water. Water that is high in dissolved minerals can cause a range of problems such as soap scum in sinks and bathtubs, bathtub rings, spots on dishes or shower doors, reduced foaming and cleaning abilities of soaps and detergents, dingy and yellowed clothes with soapy residues that require extra rinsing to remove, clogged pipes from buildup of minerals, increased water heating costs from buildup of minerals, reducing efficiency of water heaters, and possible skin infections from bacteria trapped in pores underneath soap scum. Our soft water exchange tank service is the environmentally superior way to soften your hard water. With this system, a Rayne technician will deliver a fresh tank to your home and exchange it every week, every 2 weeks or every 4 weeks depending on the number of people in your home. They will return the “old” tank back to the plant to “regenerate” it for the next trip. Contact us today to find out how we can turn the water on your base to softened water.

Shower Stream May Contain Contaminants

water filter for your household may be the answer to your indoor air contamination. It is estimated that nearly two thirds of the typical person’s chlorine exposure is from chlorinated shower water.

As your local water treatment company, it may seem odd that we would focus on your indoor air. But when water from the steam and evaporation from your shower could have serious consequences, we know our products are here to help. Some people have allergic reactions to the chemicals found in unfiltered water. Chlorine, a chemical commonly found in city water – and therefore your shower water, can trigger allergic reactions for certain people. Exposure to high levels of chlorine has been linked to many serious conditions, but for some the allergies themselves are serious enough. Furthermore, most people tend to take hot showers. This water is usually hot enough to create steam. When your shower water is steaming, you are creating chlorine gas. That chlorine gas represents a troublesome form of shower water contamination.

Shower water contamination in the form of chlorine gas, according to experts, can be harmful. Research shows that it has been the cause of health problems such as allergies, asthma, and in some cases even cancer. When we are showering in hot water, we are naturally breathing in the steam through our noses and our mouths. As good as the hot water may feel on our body, it could be doing harm in our body. Filtering your shower water will drastically lower your exposure to chlorine shower water contamination. Our water purifiers and water conditioners work efficiently to remove harmful contaminants to keep you safer. So this month, when you care about your indoor air, make sure you contact us and also care about your water.

Water filters protect against drinking water hazards

Our company has one very important purpose in mind – maintaining the quality and safety of your drinking water. That is why we have earned a Gold Seal from the Water Quality Association for our high industry standards. According to their website, “the Water Quality Association’s Gold Seal Certification Program is dedicated to providing public health and safety services throughout the USA and globally, while maintaining expert service, superior reputation, and fair pricing.” Through affordable, eco-friendly, and effective products, we are able to sustain the integrity of your tap water by removing harmful contaminants at any household demand. 85% of the US population gets their drinking water from public water systems. When these systems are compromised, so is your drinking water. As one community in Virginia Beach has found, decisions and circumstances can impact drinking water sources in unheard of ways. Leaving your drinking water decisions in the hands of policymakers and corporations can also be dangerous. According to a recent article from wavy.com, uranium mining could impact public drinking water. Although the decision to mine the largest undeveloped uranium deposit in the nation could bring a major economic boom to the local economy in times where jobs are scarce, will it be worth the risks and threats to their drinking water in the long run? Residents and officials are concerned that in the process of mining uranium, by-products could flow downstream and into local homes. Radioactive by-products, that is. The Virginia Beach mayor states that “I don’t think we want our citizen’s drinking water that has radioactivity in it.” But what will win out? The quality of drinking water or economic benefits that could fuel the Commonwealth for 75 years? The uranium is concentrated underneath one Virginia man’s farmland and it’s worth billions of dollars. What is a resident to do? Well, the best decision that those residents could make, as well as any other homeowners across the nation who find themselves asking this very question, is to consider a drinking water system such as a water filter or water cooler. Our drinking water systems are some of the smartest ever made and utilize the latest in drinking water technology. You don’t have to worry about the external decisions putting your drinking water quality at risk. If an economic stimulus is going to outweigh the safety of your public drinking water, our drinking water systems may be the perfect step in keeping your tap water safe and pure.

Cheers to the New Year… and New Drinking Water Habits!

Posted by Ken Christopher
A New Year’s resolution is a commitment that a person makes to one or more personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit. It is a time to reflect on the changes we want or need to make, yet many Americans tend to make the same resolutions each year whether or not it was successful. In fact, historians believe that we have the Babylonians to thank for the annual chore of reflecting on our character and vowing to do to better. Traditionally, many Americans will make weight loss and getting healthy their resolution for the New Year. As part of this healthier lifestyle, many Americans will try to eat better and exercise more. As you improve your diet and burn more calories, remember to drink plenty of water to keep you feeling and looking better.

Drinking water before each meal has actually been proven to help you lose more weight. It has been hailed as a secret weapon in weight loss and is such an easy change you can do within your diet plans. Brenda Davy, PhD, an associate professor of nutrition at Virginia Tech and senior author of a 2010 study, says that drinking just two 8-ounce glasses of water before meals helps people melt pounds away. She tells WebMD that many people substitute sweet-tasting calorie-containing beverages for water. Choosing water has so many benefits. You will feel fuller, look younger, and consume fewer calories. Why would you choose a resolution that will lead to failure? Drinking more water is easy and you will reap the benefits quickly, keeping you motivated for sure. After all, success is the best motivator. Drinking plenty of safe water is a doable resolution for sure. Most resolutions come with an average failure rate of about 78%, say experts. Our drinking water systems make it easy to complete your goals of being healthier. Reverse osmosis will turn your tap water into safe, healthy drinking water by eliminating harmful contaminants in a cost-effective manner. Making a resolution doesn’t have to mean spending too much money. In fact, bottled water costs more financially and environmentally. A drinking water filter will simply turn tap water into healthier water. This is the perfect way to support such an important resolution here in 2013. With so many unhealthy people in this country, increasing the water we drink is the perfect start to the New Year. Your resolution may also have a positive impact on those around you. You will be modeling healthy habits for your children and promoting a healthier lifestyle without “failing” at a resolution. Will you make drinking more (safe) water your 2013 New Year’s resolution too?

Los Angeles Water Quality 2021

How clean is LA tap water?

If you’re one of the more than 10 million residents of Los Angeles, chances are you’ve poured yourself a cup of water from a city-supplied tap.1 While the latest Environmental Protection Agency report (January 2019-March 2019) found that Los Angeles water quality was in compliance with the federal health guideline for drinking water standards, this doesn’t mean that there weren’t still some contaminants present in the water.2

Read on to learn more about what LA’s water supply contains, and how you can treat your own water source at home with a water filtration system .

Examining LA Water Quality

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG) drinking water quality report, tap water provided by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was in compliance with federal drinking standards.3 This data covers years 2012-2017.

Just because LA’s tap water was in compliance doesn’t mean, according to EWG, that this water is necessarily safe to drink. The purpose of EWG is to bridge the gap between actual water quality and what is mandated by government standards.

EWG claims that “legal limits for contaminants in LA tap water have not been updated in almost 20 years,” meaning the bar for meeting federal regulations may be too low.

The latest report outlining what is in LA’s water found 21 total contaminants with eight exceeding EWG health guidelines.

These eight contaminants include:3

The health concern with all of the above contaminants is their potential to cause cancer at high enough contaminant levels. Los Angeles water quality falls short of EWG guidelines, but it fares better than the national average for levels of haloacetic acids and total trihalomethanes.

Get started today! We specialize in providing the purest water possible!

Water Filters: The Answer to Clean Water

According to EWG, water filtration and contacting your local officials are two ways to address the high levels of contaminants in LA drinking water.

The LA County Department of Public Health says that while public water suppliers in the city routinely test their water, “the cost of reducing contaminant levels to zero would be prohibitively expensive.”6

While it may take some time to hear back from government leaders, you can start filtering your home water source today for far less money than it would take to treat an entire city’s water source.

EWG outlines a few water filter options, including activated carbon, reverse osmosis, and ion exchange.

The water filter system that best reduces contaminant levels is reverse osmosis. This system effectively eradicates all of the above mentioned contaminants, plus more than half-a-dozen other contaminants. The system works by pushing unfiltered water through a reverse osmosis membrane that removes impurities and contaminants, leaving you with fresh-tasting water.

Rayne Water: LA Water Made Clean

LA’s tap water is legally safe to consume, but that doesnt’ mean the water quality is top notch. According to the guidelines set forth by research and advocacy nonprofit Environmental Working Group, LA’s tap water should be filtered before drinking. Installing a reverse osmosis water filtration system in your home—especially if you live in southern California—is one step you can take to treat your water.

Water treatment company Rayne Water services California, Arizona, and Nevada and has several reverse osmosis and water softener systems available.

If you want LA water made clean and soft, consider installing a Rayne Water system today. Rayne offers a variety of water systems along with helpful tidbits such as how to remember to drink water or is chlorinated water safe to drink

January is National Birth Defects Prevention Month

Posted by Ken Christopher

Did you know that every four minutes, a baby is born with a birth defect? I was astounded at that number! That’s 360 babies per day. Of course, there are literally hundreds of causes that we can point our finger to – smoking, drug abuse, poor nutrition, and so forth. But, as a water guy, I decided to just do a quick search on how drinking water affects pregnancy, so I plugged “drinking water + birth defects” into Google, and I found quite a wide array of potential problems. Now, don’t get me wrong, I think our municipal water treatment plants do a fantastic job of keeping us safe, but an unborn baby is affected by minute quantities of contaminants that wouldn’t affect a healthy adult so drastically. So, here’s what I found on my search:

And so the list went on. If you are pregnant, or are considering adding to your family, we encourage you to have your water tested. Birth defects are heartbreaking – and permanent. There is much that we cannot control, such as genetic factors, but we can most certainly control the water we drink and use in our homes. A quality water filter, drinking water system, or water conditioner could mean life or death to your baby.

Healthy Drinking Habits Start Young

Posted by Ken Christopher

When our children are young, it is important to instill many important habits. We teach them to say “please” and “thank you,” to wash their hands after going to the bathroom, not to talk to strangers, and fire safety. But do we do a good enough job instilling habits of drinking for their health, both physical and dental? Many of us are a little too lenient in this area, probably because the hectic ways of life force us to find some type of easy choices. And while soft drinks or other sugary fruit drinks can often times be simple, they are not the habits we need our young children to pick up, rather they should be drinking plenty of safe water to protect their dental health. Protecting dental health may also mean investing in a water purifier to protect your drinking water quality at the same time. Each February, the American Dental Association sponsors a month named National Children’s Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. NCDHM messages and materials have reached millions of people in communities across the country. As they explain, “developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.” In fact, soft drink consumption is one of several leading causes of tooth decay. Carbonation, sugar and acids in soft drinks weaken tooth enamel and encourage the growth of bacteria that contribute to tooth decay. Furthermore, sugar in soda combines with bacteria in your mouth to form acid and this acid, plus the extra acid from soft drinks, attacks the teeth. Each acid attack lasts about 20 minutes, and acid attacks start over again with every sip. Constant acid erosion weakens enamel and weakened enamel causes cavities. Again, dental health is essential to overall health. Good dental health improves a person’s ability to speak, smile, smell, taste, touch, chew, swallow, and make facial expressions to show feelings and emotions. One of the best things you can do for your child according to the American Dental Association is to instill the habit of drinking water as part of a healthy diet and routine to support good dental health. But when we drink more water from the sink, we also run the risk of drinking more water which could be contaminated. In this case, we recommend our water filters and drinking water systems which effectively and efficiently reduce harmful contaminants right from the tap. Kids these days need to drink more water, plain and simple, but as a parent, we need to make sure the water is safer and great-tasting. So this National Children’s Dental Health Month, invest in a drinking water system which will have your kids wanting to drink more water… better water and start instilling healthy drinking habits which they will continue for a lifetime.
